Cool Duct Tape Ideas: Cover Your Furniture

Yes, I am completely obsessed with kids’ bedrooms. Especially the open, individualistic creativity that sprouts behind closed doors. Fen’s bedroom undergoes complete transformations every month or so, and in between times, it morphs and evolves in smaller, more subtle ways. Decorations are changed, mini-shrines are erected and dismantled, furniture is adorned with the soft-and-fluffy-item du jour.

I’ve written about this before, and no doubt I’ll write about it again, because it’s one of my favorite things. As she grows, I become more and more delighted with what comes out of her brain, and today’s post documents her latest duct tape adventure.

This was completely unprompted, and I think happened when I was taking an afternoon nap. Do you all nap? It’s my favorite activity, really.

I have a few items that could use a bit of Fen’s style…

Ooh. I could hire her out to do duct tape decor! Thanks for the idea.

Fen did a wonderful job. I think it’s so cool to redo plain old furniture with duct tape. PickyKidPix redid her white desk and desk chair and I have to say that I was shocked at how well it came out!

It looks good, doesn’t it? I think duct tape is a fun medium for kids to go nutty with in their rooms- I wish I could do the same to our couch, but I have a feeling it wouldn’t look so good.

Adorable, but not very functional. Not only will the backing wear off the tape, but the edges will roll up and stick to things (especially on the chair), and it’s hard to write on a surface covered with duct tape without damaging the paper. If I were to do this to my desk I’d have to get a glass topper to go over it to address all those problems. Not sure what I could do to save the chair. Eh, better off just using paint.

Yes, I suppose every material has its drawbacks. As it goes, my daughter is loving her desk and has been using it without a problem. The best part is that she had a wonderful time making it!

You’re right. And it’s not just the best part, it’s the most important part.
