Candy Corn Turkey Tutorial

Source: By Charityc @ Foodlets, “Chocolate Turkey Pretzel Sticks”Thanksgiving is a great time to come together with family and friends, but it is also something that comes along shortly after Halloween when you are likely to have that left-over bag of candy corn to spare! This gives you a chance to do something charming and unique. What is so great about these little candy corn turkeys is that it takes very little effort and skills to make them! It is the perfect craft to do with kids, as the end result is quite impressive, yet the process is ridiculously simple. Kids thrive when they are given a task they can complete themselves (under supervision), and it is a great way to help them build confidence.

What You Need

  • Candy Corn
  • Chocolate
  • Pretzels
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Wax Paper

The other thing that makes candy corn craft turkeys a great family activity is that it requires very few ingredients and items! You are likely to have many of these things at home already or available at any nearby store.

Instructions

Perhaps you are wondering how in the world you can possibly turn candy corn into a turkey? Don’t worry, we have put together a very simple step-by-step guide.Once you read through it, you will realize just how logical the process is, and you probably won’t need the instructions the next time you make candy corn turkeys. We don’t recommend having kids do these on their own, as the instructions include the use of hot melted chocolate, and you want to make sure to use common sense when allowing children to partake in the creation of these adorable thanksgiving turkey snacks.

Prepare the Pretzel

Start the process by taking wax paper and spreading it out on a table. Then, place as many pretzels as you want on the paper. Each pretzel is going to turn into a turkey, so it depends on how many candy corn turkeys you want to make.

Melt the Chocolate

The easiest way to melt chocolate is by boiling water and placing a plate on top. The chocolate goes on the plate, and as the water gets hotter, the chocolate will start to melt without burning. Remember, the chocolate gets very hot, so keep your fingers away from it.

Add Chocolate to the Pretzels

Use a spoon to add chocolate to each of the pretzels on your wax paper. The chocolate should go right in the middle, as it is going to serve as “glue” when adding the rest of the turkey bits!

Bring Out the Candy Corn

You can add a little more chocolate to each piece of candy corn to make it stick better, and you are going to need three pieces for each pretzel. Place the three candy corn pieces side by side with the pointy end aimed towards the center of the pretzel. The candy corn is the turkey’s feathers and wings.

Add the Chocolate Chip

Use regular chocolate chips or butterscotch chips if you can find them, and use these to make the head for the candy corn turkey!Once you have added the candy corn with the pointy ends pointing towards the middle of the pretzel, there should be a small space left up top. There, add one chocolate chip to play the role of the head.’

Give the Turkey Eyes

When you reach this stage of your creative process, the candy corn turkey should already look like a little snack bird! Now, use a toothpick and dip it in the melted chocolate and use it to make eyes for your little pretzel bird.

Enjoy with Friends and Family

What is so funny about candy corn is that we somehow make the same mistake every year – we buy too much of it. With that in mind, isn’t it a great idea to use it to make treats for Thanksgiving? You get to make the treats together with your family and enjoy it with friends and extended family at the annual family dinner everybody loves. Not only does Thanksgiving fall shortly after Halloween – making the timing perfect – but it is also the perfect opportunity to get rid of that extra candy you know you weren’t going to eat.

Why Not Surprise the Neighbors?

If there is still too much candy corn left after you have made your thanksgiving dinner turkeys, you could always have your kids make a few extras to go and surprise the neighbors! There is always someone who needs to be cheered up during the holidays, and these adorable pretzel birds also happen to be delicious.

Conclusion

There are many different things you can make when you want to do crafts with candy corn, but this is something that will both look pretty, taste great and bring the family together. It is a great little craft project to do with kids, but just be careful with the melted chocolate so that nobody gets their fingers burned. It takes very little to make someone’s day, and wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could brighten someone’s day by giving them the ultimate candy corn craft – a Thanksgiving candy corn turkey snack! The chocolate and the pretzel bring out a whole new flavor profile in the candy corn, and you won’t be able to eat just one. Just be warned: They are so cute the receiver might not want to eat them, but do your best to convince them, as they wouldn’t want to miss out on such a delicious flavor explosion.
