Crafting at Christmas is the highlight for many children, and lots of parents have started filling their advent calendars with activities instead of candy. Spending quality time creating decorations with your child makes a holiday season so much more special, and it’s a great way to ensure that your house looks beautiful.
These paper plate Christmas trees are a fantastic way to make your home look bright, and your child might want to put one in their room so that they have their very own “tree” to admire. You could also make a few for relatives, or create different trees for different rooms in the house.
Your kid will love this because they can do a lot of the craft by themselves, and most of it will be spent on making the tree look pretty.
Even better, this craft can be used year after year, ensuring that you remember the fun you had crafting every time you get this special ornament out. Stick some lights around it to light it up and make it look extra special, and you’ve got a perfect homemade decoration to enjoy. Inexpensive and fun, this is an ideal project.
Paper Plate Reindeer

Rudolph’s distinctive nose will brighten up your living room beautifully, ready and waiting for Christmas deliveries. If you make one of these with each of your children, you could pin them to the stockings as extra decorations for Christmas morning.
Materials:
For this craft, you’re going to require:
- A paper plate (in brown, or with brown paint and a paintbrush)
- Scrap white paper
- A black pen
- Scissors
- Brown paper
- A red pom pom
- Glue
- Orange paper (optional)
Step 1: Paint Your Plate
Again, you can skip this step if you are able to source a brown paper plate, but this might be a little tricky, so you can always paint one instead. If you are painting one, let your little one have a go, but try and help them even out the paint so that you get a smooth finish.Once the plate is painted, set it aside to dry.
Step 2: Cut Out The Eyes
While the paint is drying, you can cut out the eyes. You can use googly eyes for this reindeer plate if you prefer, but it may be hard to find any that are big enough. Paper eyes work well too.Draw around a coin to get a good, smooth circle, and then cut them out. Your child can hold them for you.
Step 3: Stick On The Eyes
Help your child arrange the eyes on the top half of the paper plate. You can work on either the back or the front, but the back may look better.Once you’re happy with the position, glue them into place and draw the pupils in, using your black pen.
Step 4: Add The Nose
Put a blob of glue between the eyes, a bit lower down, and get your child to stick the big red pom-pom as a nose there. You can then draw a big smile with your black pen.
Step 5: Make The Antlers
Grab your brown paper and sketch two rough antlers on it. These don’t need to be too long as they will end up being floppy.Draw a long, thin oval with a flat base, and then add a little rounded branch on either side at different heights ““ this will do fine for an antler. You can make them more complicated if you want, too.
Step 6: Glue The Antlers On
Smear some glue on the top of the paper plate on the opposite side to your reindeer’s face, and then help your child carefully glue the antlers into place. Arrange them so that they are angled a little bit to the sides, rather than going straight up.Be careful not to knock off the nose if the glue is still wet there.
Step 7: Give Him A Carrot (Optional)
Cut a triangle out of some orange paper and let your child glue it to the reindeer’s mouth. You can add some lines to it with your black pen if you want. You’ve now got an adorable reindeer plate that you can hang up or prop on the mantelpiece.
Conclusion
These crafts are a perfect way to keep your little one busy during the Christmas season, and they will love showing all your visitors what fun things you’ve made. They’re inexpensive and the bits you need should be easy to source, so what could be better for Christmas craft sessions?
