Yes, preschool is upon us, and so are tons of learning apps, and it is so hard to weed through them all. I’m no big techie, so I really just keep my eyes open and see what gets good reviews, what catches my eye design-wise, and we also try out a bunch of apps.
So far, these are Beckett’s 2 favorite ABC apps, by FAR. These are the 2 he keeps going back to and asking to play. They happen to be my favorite 2 apps as well, and it makes me wonder about the sophistication of kids’ tastes. It seems as though lots of kids are loving these, by all of the other reviews I’ve read of them.
First up, and one I’ve reviewed before, is the Lonely Beast. I just reviewed it a little over 2 months ago, so you can read my review here. I guess I really just wanted to reiterate how impressed I am with it, because it’s continued to keep Beckett interested.
I don’t know if it’s the character, the wonderful illustrations, the simplicity of it, or the goofiness (I like all of these things), but 3 year old B is a big fan.
The other one we’re in love with is Endless Alphabet. Again, it’s so wonderfully illustrated. Beyond that, the voices they put to the letters, the little creatures, and the way the characters interact between words is hilarious. My favorite is R. I seriously crack up whenever I hear it.
Besides my being impressed with the apps, I can see Becket actually learning letters. It’s so cool! We go over the sounds and names of the letters on our own, but the apps reinforce that practice, and vice-versa.
I’m slowly warming up to the idea of supplementing learning with apps- it’s much easier to feel this way as their quality increases. The combination of great graphics, entertaining audio and clever activities on these two make them major winners.
Got any more suggestions for us? I’m all ears. And come follow my Creative Apps for Kids board on Pinterest.
